In the 1970’s Tax Law emerged as a branch of the Financial Law to meet the demand of the corporate law field. It evolved along with the Democracy in Brazil.
Companies which in the past were reticent with the results derived from occasional ballots of Tax Authorities at all levels (federal, state and municipal), slowly found their way to bring their claims to Court. The judicial system, mainly at the Federal government level, addressed the needs of the society at the time by ruling on the basis of legitimate constitutional principles of Law, which undoubtedly meant a crucial step forward in the County newly founded.
Following the events of that time in history, three attorneys (graduated in the 1980’s) began to work in this field. With their combined experiences and expertise they founded Mattos, Rodeguer Neto e Victoria &Partners in 1986 – focusing the practice of the firm in Corporate and Taxation Law.
The period that followed the foundation of the firm, in which out-of-court receiverships of some financial institutions were settled and regulated bylaw 6.024/74, consolidated Mattos, Rodeguer Neto, Victória &Partners as a firm highly specialized in addressing all questions related to receivership processes, which led to the expansion of the areas of law covered by our professionals, such as bankruptcy, social security, labor, civil and all sorts of commercial matters and Intellectual Property Rights.
Headquartered in Sao Paulo, Mattos, Rodeguer Neto, Victória & Partners currently counts with a structure suitable to cover all of the above areas of practice, with an additional office in Rio de Janeiro and correspondents all over the Country and abroad.
With 20 years’ experience, the practitioners Adriana Leal and Gisela Cesar Maldonado arrive as the new partners of our firm.
The admission reflects our growth strategy and our intention to add services that will most benefit our clients. The new partners undertake the challenge to lead the firm in the implementation of its expansion plans towards a full service model by structuring and managing a department fully dedicated to providing innovative legal services in estate, contracts and company matters to national and international clients.
The new department will be involved in every step of the process of planning, negotiating and implementing business structures of different sizes and forms for our clients. The incorporation of companies, partnerships and general corporate work and legal advice on general business law matters are among the services our professionals provide. They are prepared to render assistance in the daily management of legal issues and conflicts affecting a business or company, in addition to providing specialized legal advice in structures and transactions of higher complexity such as consortiums, special purpose entities, mergers and acquisitions and project finance.
In addition, the admission of the new partners places our firm at a higher level in foreign investment related services. With a wealth of experience and fluent in various languages they will be present throughout the negotiation and implementation of multinational joint ventures.
Experience shows that in doing business, locally or abroad, risk assessment is one of the most important exercises to be performed by new or experienced investors. From conducting the due diligence process of target companies, preparing the necessary legal paperwork, providing advice in foreign currency regulation of the Brazilian Central Bank, tax planning mechanisms and general legal advice, the talent and energy of our professionals come as an important tool at the disposal of our clients.
